About Me.Welcome! You have endured a historic time. This year will be a year like no other for several reasons: it is your first year of middle school, it is your first year at Twality, and you are getting a step closer to a more "normal" middle school experience with less pandemic guidelines.
It is, an absolute pleasure for me to help students venture through middle school. This is my 26th year at Twality and teaching middle school. I have seen middle school from many perspectives. As a parent, I have experienced middle school twice. I have helped one of my kiddos struggle through middle school with strengths in art and music when the emphasis was strictly reading and math. I have a 2018 TuHS |

graduate who excels with ease and needs to stay busy. I have firsthand experience with both sides of middle school academics - worrying if your child is challenged and other times drowning in work and wondering if you are DOING more than helping. As a student, I was a pretty typical underachiever...capable of more but not always applying myself. I am fairly savvy to games that middle school students can play, because I probably tried most myself. As a teacher, I have been working with sixth graders at Twality for twenty-six years. I have taught every subject with several different teaching partners, as a triad, and self-contained. I enjoy teaching middle school today just as much as my first year. I have been teamed almost 20 years together with Brad Montplaisir. We collectively have 45 years teaching experience (all at Twality), and I believe we have found the perfect balance of similar student-centered philosophy, consistent classroom expectations, persistent pushing for students to excel to potential, and plenty of humor to get us through.
I believe communication plays a vital role in student success. We meet regularly to discuss student progress. Similarly, we want parents to maintain close contact regarding student behavior and performance as well. While email is best, we welcome parent communication in any form. It is often best to address concerns early before potential problems can grow. You can expect from us regular updates regarding your child's work completion, monthly grade updates, and contact as necessary regarding any other concerns.
When I am not at school with your kids, I enjoy spending as much time as possible with my own family. As a parent of a 31 and 22 year old, I can say enjoy every minute...even those adolescent moments you might rather forget. With my youngest off finishing her undergrad and my oldest recently married and a new homeowner, I would give anything to spend more time with both my kids young...yes, even middle school. Time really does fly by.
I look forward to working with you this year.
